(24.1.2011) Innokas Medical's Rakvere plant extension opened |
Innokas Medical's plant extension in Rakvere, Estonia, was opened in November. Estonian Minister of the Interior Marko Pomerants inaugurated the plant extension by starting the new production line.
From assembly to more comprehensive services
The plant in Rakvere was set up in 2006 to assemble electronic components. Last year, Innokas Medical established a new company, Innokas Medical Estonia Oü, to continue and develop its operations in Estonia. The opening of the plant extension also marked the beginning of the new company's operations. Thanks to the extension, Innokas Medical has been able to expand its Estonian operations from the assembly of electronic components to more comprehensive services. The company is also developing its overall logistics and acquisition operations in Estonia and the nearby areas.
“The strategic aim of these measures is for us to be able to provide our customers with even more refined medical equipment, also from the Estonian plant. The old plant was only 350 square meters in size, but the extension brought along an extra 1000 square meters. The new facilities have an entirely automated placement and processing line for printed circuit boards. There are also more spaces for assembly," says managing director Jouni Ihme.
In 2009, the Rakvere plant's volume totaled approximately 22,000 products, accounting for 10 percent of Innokas Medical's net sales. The aim is to double the percentage in a few years’ time. Innokas Medical currently employs approximately 30 people in Rakvere, but the number will increase as a result of new investments.
Local cooperation will continue
Innokas Medical will continue its long-term cooperation with local operators in Estonia. According to Ihme, it is the best way to develop the production process.
According to the Minister of the Interior Marko Pomerants, work is an important element for people to feel secure. When starting up the new production line, he stated, however, that Innokas Medical's extension is not merely a question of jobs, but it also has to do with the development of the region's industrial life. Rakvere is a town of some 17,000 inhabitants, located a hundred kilometers east of Tallinn. The region's industrial structure has been dominated by agriculture. According to Mihkel Juhkami, Chairman of Rakvere Town Council, Rakvere's companies are primarily SMEs. The food industry is an important industry for the region.
